在自動化領域，光電傳感器總體上提供了所有快速和非接觸式監(jiān)測的好處。在標準傳感器中，對射傳感器,反向反射傳感器，漫反射傳感器這三種功能性的原理上之間有區(qū)別，取決于功能和相對位置。

對射型光電傳感器的發(fā)射器和接收器分別安裝在兩個獨立相對的外殼中。這么做的好處是，發(fā)射光可直接到達接收器，并且具有較長的檢測范圍和較高的能量增益。這類傳感器能可靠地檢測幾乎任何物體，與目標物的入射角度，表面特性，顏色等無關，并且這些因素也不影響傳感器檢測的可靠性。

對射型光電傳感器常用于遠距離檢測，穩(wěn)定性好，能量強。對射型光電傳感器的特性也決定了它適用于多塵和較臟的工業(yè)環(huán)境。
